彼ら、オーストラリアの人々は僕たち、日本人から見ると非常に不思議な人々だ

彼らが人に呼び掛けるとき、必ず”Hi mate!!”なんて呼びかける。

これは大体「やあ僕の友達！！」みたいな直訳になるが、意味的には「こんにちわ」みたいな感じで使っている。

そして非常にフレンドリーである。駅で待っていると、隣に座った人がいきなり話しかけてきたり、隣の人が「新聞読む？」と新聞を渡してきたり。

彼らは非常に人とかかわることに抵抗がないらしく、平気でハグしあったり、偶然前の席に座った人と歓談にふけったりととてもフレンドリーである。

これが日本だったらどうか。

駅で隣の人に話しかけたりすれば大抵警戒されるし、新聞読む？と新聞を渡されても何か裏があるのでは？と邪推したりする人のなんと多いことか。

これが移民によって作られた国ともともと住んでいた人だけで閉鎖的に育ってきた国との大きな違いなのだろう。
